My duties as the sole Shell representative at LMI, were to oversee site fabrication/welding of the duplex pipe spools and pressure vessels, witness NDE, 100% radiography interpretation, witness all pressure testing. A comprehensive report with photos to Shell Bergen twice weekly with a summary of site activities, contract progress and health and safety findings.

In the north Caspian Sea, `D' Island is a man-made island approx 4 X 2 Km, to facilitate all off-shore plant for oil and gas production from one of the largest oil finds in 30 years. Working on the hook-up part of the project which is the connection of all pipe-work and electrics on installed pipe-racks and modules built local and internationally. Working month on/off, responsible for the QA/QC on work of all job contractors on the South side of the island. Overseeing a team of sub-contract engineers, mechanical inspectors, welding inspectors, electrical inspectors and painting inspectors. Daily/weekly/monthly reporting to the Agip KCO QC Project Manager. * Attend daily construction meetings as client's QA/QC representative ; * Reviewing contractor's welding inspectors and all NDT activities including occasional assisting/training of locals and 3rd world nationals. ; * Auditing of all welding activities on tanks, vessels and associated pipework, consumable store, welder qualifications, and reporting results weekly with recommendations. ; * Plan and conduct quality audits of sub-contractors to ensure that activities are according to their company quality plan. In charge (and monitoring all activities) of around 60 multi-disciplined NDT inspectors of nationalities, British, Pilipino, Indian, Rumanian, Azeri and local Angolans with on-line inspection on various off-shore projects from new construction to 25 year old plant. Taking client work orders and offshore platform eork scopes from Chevron then planning and utilising manpower for offshore inspection with the majority of the work being visual inspection over side at inaccessible locations and at height using rope access techniques. Net remaining wall thickness measurements with ultrasonics and crack detection with MPI/Dye Penetrant techniques on pressure vessels, holding tanks and pipes. All difficult access areas inspected using rope access techniques. I cross-checked a percentage of the completed work. Also organising boat and helicopter trips offshore, permits, tool box talks, and manpower for client's constant change of priorities. Monitored all reporting before final hand over to client. Twice weekly meetings with Chevron engineers for progress, manning priorities and areas of concerns.

Transocean Trident 14 CNIC yard, Douala, Cameroon Transocean Project manager: Iain MacNiven Phone: +237 75295755 Email: IMacNiven@aberdeen.deepwater.com Duties: QA/QC Advisor Trident 14, a 27 year-old Jack-up drilling rig working for Chevron in Angolan water was taken into the CNIC yard Douala, Cameroon for a major refurbish and I was subcontracted by RBG ltd to Transocean for work as the QA/QC Advisor on the project with two Transocean assistants. The job scheduled to be completed mid September is to be done in two stages. The rig was loaded onto the Fairmount Fjell barge for stage one spud can inspection and steel replacement. When this was completed, work was started on steel replacement to corroded sections on the outer shell, tanks, jack-houses, pipe-work and leg sections. A total of one thousand tonnes was scheduled to be replaced. I liaised with the American Bureau of Shipping Surveyor and Shipyard Inspectors/NDT team during construction. Monitor all NDT/Inspection activities with frequent cross-checking. Attend daily morning production team meetings and daily afternoon production team/shipyard management to put forward project QA/QC issues. Liaised with CNIC QC department for final QC package.

Working on: Transocean Sedco 709 semi-submersible drilling platform `A' Dock, Cape Town, South Africa for RBG ltd, Aberdeen. Project Supertendant: Bill Hives, +44 1224 72288 Bill.Hives@rbgltd.com Duties: QA/QC Inspector RBG ltd were contracted by Transocean to manage a refurbish project on their Semi-submersible drilling rig Sedco 709 in Cape Town and worked as part of the 7 man management team. Three local companies, CSC Dorbyl, Globe Engineering and SA Five Engineering, with a total work-force of 1200 were contracted to fabricate and install 4 main leg blisters (75 tonnes each), remove and replace all corroded and condemned steel in legs, pontoons and top-side. Replace pipe-work, valves, pumps, deck plate and crane up-grades. I integrated the 3 contract companies into a common QA reporting format controlled by two technical clerks and supervised all of the project inspection and NDT with frequent on site NDT/Inspection cross-checking. Responsible for all QA/QC functions as per Transocean Scope of Work and American Bureau of Shipping requirements, including: * Supervision of on-site construction and daily visit to contractor's work-shops with final acceptance of fabrication and painting ; * Records of all material certificates ; * Witness welders test and record welders qualifications ; * Witness all pressure and function tests ; * Attend daily on-site production meetings and address weekly QA meetings ; * Oversee the work of contractor's Welding and NDT Inspectors to integrate all inspection data into one common reporting format. ; * Draw up of the contract final work packages and hand-over to the client Transocean Drilling all electronic and hard copies.
